Our Story

Hello, my name is Jordan Eldredge and I am the President/Executive Director of Madison’s Yard LLC. I am a certified dog trainer and for the last six years have been employed by a public safety psychologist, working alongside first responders in the state of New Mexico and surrounding states.

The idea of Madison’s Yard was created to fulfill a need I observed over the last six years of my career in working with first responders, in combination with my personal love of dogs and what they can provide for people. It has been a lifelong dream to rescue dogs and provide them with the love and support they deserve. While working with first responders and having first-hand experience of what they go through on a day-to-day basis, I realized they were in need of support as well.

Suicide rates of first responders have skyrocketed and mental health in general has declined and is continuing to as they proceed with their ever-demanding jobs day after day. First responders are trained to continue work even after the toughest calls that challenge them physically, mentally, and emotionally. But that trauma they experience doesn’t just go away on its own. Help is needed in order to process and heal so they can continue working.

Research shows that dogs have healing powers over humans. They can slow a heartrate, lower blood pressure, lower the stress hormone cortisol, increase the level of the feel good hormone oxytocin, and give a sense of presentness to name a few benefits. Dogs are being used in hospitals, airports, court rooms, even police stations in order to assist the general public in relaxation and remaining calm. It is my belief that these services should be available to first responders as well as a form of self-care and a healthy coping skill. After rescuing my dog Madison and watching her heal the ones I love around me during their times of struggle, Madison’s Yard was created.

Madison’s Yard is unique because it  will be the the first of its kind. There are services available for first responders to receive a personal therapy dog or even have them as their partner on the job itself. However, not all first responders have the time, money, or space to take care of a dog. That is why Madison’s Yard will be a facility in which first responders can visit and mingle with dogs, but have no personal responsibility for them. These dogs are not therapy dogs, but they will be trained in obedience, well-socialized, and will be in their natural setting, outside and free.

It is my hope that First Responders and dogs can thrive together at Madison's Yard.
